Favorite picture + why

(Picture taken by my acquaintance, Dana Hoffman, NNHS NPAC stage. 3/16/23)

My senior year, a day before spring break, was when this picture was taken. I like the picture above, as it was a core memory of last year (for the Multicultural Show representing Mandarin Club). I love to dance, especially with my friends.

The red stands out from all the tones of different grays and blacks. With a few spots of white (mainly from the shoes and the shine from the light hitting most of my friend’s forehead). The only repetition is everyone’s outfit, shoes, and fans. Four of the girls (including me) wore black skirts and red tops; the others wore red skirts and black tops. Everyone wore different brands of white shoes (but still white shoes nevertheless), and all holding identical fans. Looking from afar, we arranged ourselves into a heart (or tried at least). There seems to be a space in the middle, but that’s because we were all trying to practice making a heart. The girl in the middle didn’t want to be the center of the heart– she wanted that empty space to represent everyone watching to be in that space. It’s like sending love and thanks to everyone watching our performance.

I want anyone who views this picture, to see our hard work and enjoyment onstage. A heart sending out to everyone in the audience. We’re smiling because we enjoyed dancing and performing on stage. For a few senior friends in that picture, we wanted to remember our last performance, and it’ll be forever cherished. And possibly the tiredness from our eyes, as we did perform throughout the school day and at night (starting at around seven pm to about eight or nine pm). All of our hard work– even if we’re clumsy (we all planned to face the fan bone side towards us instead of the audience, but a few ended up showing that towards the audience. But that’s alright! We all make little mistakes, but we all worked hard to show our best onstage).

Expectations + plans for CARD 101-8

(Picture from google)

After reading the syllabus, I have a general idea of what my English class offers. I expect us to read, note take, be active in class (whether that's reading out loud, asking questions, answering questions, communicating with peers, etc), and having various perspectives on the way we think about a topic. Basically to broaden, deepen, and connect our ideas with others.

My plans are to not be late for class, stay present in the classroom, do work outside of class, set aside a few minutes to organize my schedule, plan ahead for deadlines, and visit office hours or peers outside of class to work or discuss something together.

I really look forward to writing and learning different writing styles to express my feelings and thoughts! I’m also interested in reading my peer’s pieces of writing, reading all kinds of ideas and perspectives to expand my knowledge, find my favorites, feel connections, and possibly have new goals for the future
